Why Upgrade?

This release includes a new Fail Open option, critical reliability improvements, enhanced VPN compatibility, and updated security libraries. It also brings better recovery behaviors for DNS issues and startup failures. Updates ensure smoother integration with Windows systems and improved support for Fortinet VPN.

What has been improved?

  • Fail Open Option: OTG now includes a Fail Open mode, reducing the risk of DNS disruption when services are unstable. See FAIL_OPEN=true in the OTG Installation Parameters.

  • Stability: Improvements when initiating a network connectivity checks, reducing false errors during startup and better management of Unbound recovery.

  • Improved VPN Compatibility: Refactored VPN detection code lets VPN clients manage DNS directly, improving behavior when a VPN is active. Fortinet VPN compatibility has been improved by removing a temporary nameserver setting on shutdown.

  • More Reliable Reconfiguration: OTG now triggers reconfiguration after an Unbound restart or system resume, improving recovery time and service reliability.

What has been fixed?

  • Resolved Termination Handling issue.

  • Additional Error Logging has been fixed.

  • Fix to use HTTPS as the default for Certificate Downloads.

  • Updated libraries to the latest versions.

WebTitan OTG 2.2.8 for Windows

We’re excited to announce the release of OTG 2.2.8. This update brings further improvements and package updates.

Why Upgrade?

This release brings further functional and security improvements, fixes, package updates and a digitally signed OTG.

What has been improved?

  • Simplified capture of diagnostic data: The Diagnostic window has been simplified to a single option for log collection. Log collection gathers the 10 newest log files and creates a zip file, which is now saved in the Documents folder.

What has been fixed?

  • Solved an issue preventing  the installation of OTG on Windows 32bit.

  • Fix to network detection check on machine resume.

  • Fixed a minor memory leak.

  • Fix for JSON config. The fix ensures the ‘interfaces_to_ignore’ entry is honored correctly, specifically when removing a default VPN from the list.

  • Fixed a potentially exploitable security vulnerability.

  • Fix to correctly show the full Windows version on the diagnosis window.

Library Updates

  • Updated libraries to the latest versions.

We recommend updating to OTG 2.2.5 to take full advantage of these improvements.

What has been improved?

  • VPN Adapter Management: Enhanced detection and management of VPN adapters. OTG now avoids modifying their DNS configurations.

  • DNS Configuration Updates: For Windows 10 (build 19041 and above), OTG now uses a built-in Windows API to change DNS settings for improved reliability.

  • Logging: Refined logging output to make it less verbose while maintaining essential details.

  • Registry Updates: Implemented registry flushing after updating the “DNS Addresses” value to ensure consistent configuration.

  • Sleep/Resume Handling: Enhanced OTG’s ability to handle device sleep and resume events for smoother operation.

  • Network Changes: Enhanced detection of network changes for better adaptability.

What has been fixed?

  • Configuration Deletion Bug: Fixed an issue where OTG could delete a valid configuration if the WTC was unavailable.

  • DNS Registry Repetition: Addressed a bug that caused DNS server addresses to be repeated under the “DNS Addresses” registry value.

  • ConfigurationGrabber Exception: Fixed an error in ConfigurationGrabber that prevented proper parsing of DNS address lists.

Library Updates

  • OpenSSL: Upgraded to version 3.3.2 to stay current with security updates.

  • Unbound: Updated to version 1.22 for improved DNS resolution capabilities.
